SistaH of SurvivaL offers a variety of internships for individuals looking to gain valuable knowledge of the non-profit domestic violence/sexual assault services field. These opportunities will offer the Intern the opportunities to sharpen and develop their skills to the communities and families. We also prepare them for real life, hands-on situational trainings.

 

There are three internship sessions each year: Spring (January-May), Summer (May-August), and Fall (September-December) and concurrent internships are also available (summer/fall, fall/spring, spring/summer).

Business Marketing Executive
[Volunteer & Intern Opportunity]

10-15 hours per week, flexible schedule within agency hours of operation (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday); some evening/weekends required based on events.

SistaH of SurvivaL is a non-profit organization that strives to facilitate an experience that will bring a mutually satisfying experience to both the applicant and the organization. This position of a Business Marketing Executive will assist the Business Operations Director by submitting reports, revising policies/procedures, attending training/speaking engagements and organize meetings upon request. This position provides the applicant with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in na on-profit operations, shelter and crisis intervention with potential opportunities for special projects depending on the applicant’s skills.

​

The main focus is to collaborate with local shelters and solicit speaking engagements with appropriate entities in order to establish/maintain relationships within the community.

​

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:​​

  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings on domestic violence-related topics

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate research findings

  • Collaborate with program staff to identify research needs and provide data-driven insights

  • Assist in the design and implementation of research projects and evaluations

  • Plan, promote, and execute awareness events within the community

  • Ability to work with women and teen-women of various backgrounds and status

  • Availability to work part-to full-time in various aspects of organizations events

  • Travel about 10%

  • Update/develop and distribute public education materials to the community [limited responsibility]

Qualifications:​

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is a must, English required

  • Tech-Savvy with working knowledge of trending platforms

  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, and the internet in general

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently or with others

  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Must be reliable

  • Have an interest in improving the lives of others

  • Must have the ability to attend S.O.S. in-person hosted and/or invitation events

  • Access to a smartphone (ability to access accounts on the go)

  • Must live near the vicinity of Washington, DC

  • Canva and/or other design software experience, a must

  • Participate in agency events and activities as assigned, including monthly staff meetings via teams, zoom or in-person

  • May handle confidential information; discretion required

Grant Writing Intern

10-15 hours per week, flexible schedule within agency hours of operation (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday).

 

SistaH of SurvivaL is seeking a Grant Writing Intern who will assist the Development team in identifying funding opportunities and preparing grant proposals to support programs and services for survivors of domestic violence. This role provides valuable experience in non-profit grant writing and fundraising.

 

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies

  • Maintain grant calendars and track submission deadlines

  • Draft, edit, and submit grant proposals and reports

  • Maintain records of grant applications and funding received

  • Support the development of grant reports and documentation

Volunteer Coordinator Intern

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in volunteer management while supporting our mission to provide comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence & returning citizens.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers

  • Maintain volunteer records and schedules

  • Coordinate volunteer activities and events

  • Provide support and resources to volunteers

  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers

  • Help develop and implement volunteer recognition programs to appreciate and retain volunteers

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree program (e.g., Social Work, Human Resources, Non-Profit Management, Business Administration)

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal is a must

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with volunteer management software is a plus

Development and Fundraising Intern

10-15 hours per week, flexible schedule within agency hours of operation (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday); some evening/weekends required based on events.

 

The Development and Fundraising Intern will support the Development team in various fundraising activities, donor relations, and event planning. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in non-profit development and fundraising, while contributing to the mission of SistaH of SurvivaL to support survivors of domestic violence & returning citizens.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and executing fundraising events and campaigns

  • Conduct research on potential donors, grants, and funding opportunities

  • Help prepare grant proposals and donor communications

  • Maintain donor databases and track contributions

  • Travel about 10%

  • Support the development team with administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Strong research and analytical skills

  • Experience with fundraising software and databases is a plus

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Non-Profit Management, Communications, Marketing, Social Work, or a related field

Social Media and Marketing Content Creator

10-15 hours per week, flexible schedule within agency hours of operation (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday)

SistaH of SurvivaL is a non-profit organization seeking a creative and Social Media & Marketing savvy intern to help ignite our organizations’ online presence and drive customers to our online shop. This is a unique opportunity to create content for a retail chain that is owned and operated by a nonprofit organization. Candidate will create dynamic digital messaging that encourages public to donate, shop, and/or volunteer.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Create fun engaging online and social media content to build visibility

  • Use Instagram, Tik-Tok, Facebook and other platforms to showcase new items, events, and mission-related information

  • Create a strategic plan to improve SEO

  • Assist with content creation for brand design

  • Understand the overall concept and mission of the organization

  • Monitor and ensure project delivery is within timeliness

  • Reports directly to the Business Operations Director

  • Assist in the development of promotional materials, direct marketing, press releases and media advisories

  • Assist in the development of awareness materials regarding domestic violence

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, English required

  • Tech-Savvy with working knowledge of trending platforms

  • Developing and maintaining Graphic Design Standards

  • Ability to design for multiple audiences and marketing campaigns

  • Designing both promotional and educational materials, such as brochures and infographics

  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Sketch and Adobe Suite

  • Should thrive in an energetic environment and have the ability to make judgment calls and to respond tactfully in all situations

  • Understanding of motion graphics or video editing a major plus

  • Experience with presentation software such as PowerPoint and Keynote

  • Oversee digital and print projects from conception to delivery

  • Source images for print collateral, website, and social media use, and maintain the organization’s photo and video archives

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently or with others

  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
